“Researchers Say This Love Hormone Can Be For Good For Men’s Spirituality”

Do you or your partner need a spiritual awakening?  Well look no further, because researchers may have found a way to enhance men’s spirituality.

Originally dubbed the “love hormone”, oxytocin has been known to promote social bonding, trust, positive feelings and more through its release during sex, hugging, kissing and more.

According to a new study from Duke University, this hormone can also give men a greater sense of spirituality and greater positive emotions.  Everyone wants to feel a little happier, right?

The lead author and Duke psychologist, Patty Van Cappellen knew about the body’s complexity and the purpose of this study was to investigate factors that influence positive health:

“We were interested in understanding biological factors that may enhance those spiritual experiences. Oxytocin appears to be part of the way our bodies support spiritual beliefs.”

While oxytocin occurs naturally in the body, researchers gave some men the hormone and others a placebo to test its effects.  Interestingly, men given oxytocin reported more meaning and purpose in their lives.

Men also reported positive emotions during guided meditation such as pride, joy, gratitude, hope and love.  Don’t we all know a man who can be a little more expressive with emotions like these?

Dr. Van Cappellen is weary that results are not overly generalized a spirituality unique.  She says:

“Spirituality is complex and affected by many factors.  However, oxytocin does seem to affect how we perceive the world and what we believe.”

Other studies have shown that spirituality has a positive impact on overall health and well-being.

Oxytocin acts different in men and women and participants of this study were only male.

So, I’m going to need them to investigate this for women so I can get all the good feels ASAP.
